What is Lipedema?
Lipedema is a chronic feminine disorder that causes abnormal fat deposition in lower limbs and occasionally upper limbs. It leads to a visible disproportion between slim trunk and enlarged limbs. Lipedema most often involves the buttocks, thighs, and calves. The upper limbs can also be affected. Swelling does not affect the hands or feet.
Why Use Compression Therapy in Lipedema?
In lipedema, the use of compression therapy has several purposes:
✓ REDUCING SWELLING: Compression garments help reduce the accumulation of fluid and minimise swelling.
✓ PAIN MANAGEMENT: Compression therapy can alleviate discomfort and pain by providing support to the tissues and reducing pressure on nerves.
✓ ENHANCING MOBILITY AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Compression therapy provides external support, making movement easier and more comfortable. By aiding mobility, patients with lipedema may be able to be more active.
